Raunch 1 & 2

In a sign that Raunch was going to be controversial, the beginning credits state that none of the models in the movie would agree to be credited for their performance. Of course, they proceeded to make numerous movies both for Rage and others in later years, but this was 1983 and the religious right was flexing its newfound muscles (ultimately culminating in the Meese Commission Report in 1986). And, Raunch must be viewed with pre-AIDS era-glasses (so to speak), although Rage was quoted later as saying that the last film he made without regard to HIV was Toilets.

That said, Raunch was groundbreaking. Rage showed us sexual acts that while were common in certain circles, were nothing less than revolutionary to most gay men, starting with the very first images of Bosch Wagner self-fisting (the first 4 minutes) and then immediately flashing to Dick Mac sucking on an anonymous Rage for the next 4 minutes. A quick cut later and we see Piper and JD Warshaw in what would be the hardcore version of Wildside, and finally, back to Mack pissing in Rage’s mouth. This quick-cut style remained constant throughout Raunch and its sequel (included on this disc), Raunch 2.

Rage appeared in many of his films, partly out of need (appearing in porn in this era was fraught with risk) and partly out of desire (as he explores in depth in Queer), and Raunch was no different. Dick Mac continues to blow Rage’s fat cock, ultimately coaxing some piss out of it. The action moves back to the Wildside set, with most of the cast including JD Warshaw, Danie (from Street Kids), Jesse Fairweather, Piper, Bosch and George Bell enjoying a group piss scene in which they drench Dick Mack. Danie and Dick then work Rage over from front to back, with Danie sucking his cock and Dick rimming his ass. Overall, Raunch is gritty, nasty and as real as could be captured in the early days of video (as opposed to much more expensive and technically challenging requirements for shooting on film). What comes through despite the grainy texture and clearly aged video quality is that these guys really enjoyed the scene and the acts that they performed, helping Raunch remain one of the nastiest films ever produced.

Raunch 2 picks up where Raunch left off, albeit with higher quality (Rage had invested in U-matic equipment after the success of earlier works, notably Raunch) and with a more defined style. Starting with an extreme closeup of Denton Crane querying the viewer about wanting his piss, Rage developed the theme he carried throughout this – and many of his films, that these guys were acting out what most men could only fantasize. Rage’s camera lovingly pans Crane’s entire body, smooth and muscular, tantalizingly waiting for him to spill his piss. The narration continues as the action shifts to a lithe Bosch Wagner jerking off and spilling a load on his leg before cutting to Leo Majors pissing into an anonymous mouth (probably Dick Mack). Joe Simmons adds to the mix, pissing all over his chest and abs.

Simmons continues the action, pissing directly at the camera, jerking his big cock, and then working to fill a funnel connected to a hose that we later see him blowing in and shooting his piss all over himself. Interspersed with Simmons, JD Warshaw pisses in his levis, soaking himself before pulling them off and sucking the piss out of his pants.
